Session 1, January 31, 2008
Memonic received word that a young man, whose been a friendly to homeless and other street people, had turned up missing. Concerned, he began to look into the matter.
Soon, he contacted other members of the world's first superhero team! After explaining his concerns to Velocity, she quickly retrieved a number of items from Nathan's apartment and brought them to the house for examination. The laptop happened to be password protected however, and soon they involved Beth, Karina, Ion, and Auquosus.
With the whole team now working on the problem and going over the various papers they found in Nathan's apartment, they were able to crack the password and access the files on the machine. There the team discovered that the floorplans and blueprints of Lansing Bank had been carefully scrutinized and weak points identified. Further, there appeared to be a plan manipulating bank accounts to send money away from Lansing Bank.
Concerned and suspicious, the team went to work. Veronica and Ion both went to campus to do some research regarding Nathan's school record and discovered he'd been dismissed after being caught in a scheme to steal money from the wealthy Lansing family. It turned out he was in the same fraternity as Matthew Lansing (who by this time was now graduated). Nathan's hopes for his career ended in disaster.
Memonic's information had it that Nathan had been missing for two days. Concerned that the bank could be under attack at any time, Velocity assigned the team to scout out the situation. Memonic's unique abilities allowed him to get inside and look for Nathan or anything else that might be amiss while the rest waited in reserve but poised to act should the need arise.
After a search, Memo found out Nathan had been working there as a janitor and that he was supposed to be in that day. Further searching had Memo discover Nathan hiding in a bathroom using his laptop to hack the banks network, and then redistribute accounts and funds away from Lansing Bank to a number of credit unions. He was able to use his power to convince Nathan into revealing this scheme.
But Nathan was found out! Given he was discovered, Nathan went to "Plan B", which he claimed he did not want. Things looked grim when he strode out of the bathroom dressed in a purple villain costume! His first act was to blast holes in the sides of the pyramidal-shaped building. The rest of the team of heroes was on him in an instant!
Auquosus used his water tendrils to grapple Death Grip and while the villain struggled to free himself, the rest of the team leapt down from the rooftop of a nearby building and swung into action!
The battle was very brief. Death Grip used his powerful flight ability to break free of the grappling water-arms only to get socked by the Black Mask. As the others closed in to seal off all possible escape, Death Grip hurtled into a thick wall of ice projected by Auquosus and lost consciousness. Defeated, he remained under the heroes' watchful eyes until the police arrived.
The team was congratulated and thanked by the bank staff and ultimately, by the police. Velocity, who'd arrived right at the end of the six-second battle, proved very capable in representing the team to the police, creating a very positive first impression and laying groundwork for future cooperation. The new team would of course remain on hand to assist the police should they need it, though it seemed that a straight jacket would be enough to muffle Death Grip's powers.
Only a day or two later, there was a memorial celebration in honor of the day the meteor fell. Many of the heroes went, in their mundane guises, to celebrate at the University and a good time was had by all. Notably, there was a moment of silence on the very minute when, decades ago, the meteor struck and destroyed three tiny townships here in the area of Hero City.
And then another star fell.
All the heroes swept into action as fast as they were able. Velocity transported the Black Mask and then Kinetic even as Auquosus and others arrived at the scene of a new crater formed southwest of town. There, in the very pit of the crater was a silvery man...
