Session 4, March 27th, 2008
The Watch team, consisting of Velocity, Black Mask, Kinetic, and Ion, arrived at the location from which the mysterious signal had emanated and investigated. It turned out to be the testing "lab" where Velocity had tested the energy drink which had transformed her life. It was, of course, entirely abandoned, though V certainly had memories of what portions of it was like. This mostly underground lab must have represented a significant investment to someone at some time, but now it was just another playing piece sacrificed to retain anonymity.
We eventually found a single computer still somewhat functional. When we assembled to investigate it, it flickered to life and it served as a conduit to meet with a mysterious male stranger. He was backlit and his face entirely blacked out so we could not identify him. He told the team that his group was please with them and so long as we remained true to the American way there would be no problems. We questioned him as to the death of the judge and he admitted involvement, saying that it was necessary to tidy up loose ends. That didn't sit well with the Watch who were now convinced they were dealing with a group of para-military super-patriot fanatics.
After the conversation ended, the Watch had little enough to do but to return to Hero City. There Velocity contacted the police and handed over what little we knew of the people actually responsible for the judge's murder.
Things settled down after that and the group began training and patrols again. Beth decided to ask V out. She knew that her looks could be intimidating and that V would be afraid of rejection. But Beth is an adventurous person and was curious to see where thing could lead. They had a good time on the date and finished at the house where they played a fiercely competitive and team-building game of Twister along with Nadya (and poor Nathan assigned to be the "spinner"). Not that he was complaining.
The evening ended with Veronica of course missing all the clues. Beth had even planned to surprise Velocity in bed, but it didn't quite work out. Hijinks followed and there was much hilarity! At last, however, they did get together. Veronica spoiled Beth for men now, and they seem to have officially become an "item".
Meanwhile, Ion had made some discoveries of his own. Rather than self-discovery, he found a new hero on the streets of Hero City. She went by the name of Alley Cat and seemed to be a genius inventor herself. Once he'd caught up to her, the initially very interested Ion discovered that the Cat had been inspired by the Watch's activities and wanted to make a difference, too. However, before things could get interesting, he discovered she was a girl of about 16 years old. Nonetheless, contact had been made such that if she was in trouble she had a way of getting help from the Watch.
