Session 3, February 28, 2008
With Cosmus now in the team's possession, the group debated on what to do with him. It was decided that Memonic should try to manipulate Cosmus' mind just slightly in hopes that he will take more care in the future to not harm innocent people.
Velocity made contact with the police and requested what to do with the prisoner. She let them know that cold storage may be necessary. They said they'd be back in touch soon with what to do.
A break-in at the Woodlin Energy Research Center brought the attention of the group. While the team investigation, Auquosus was left in charge of watching Cosmus as he was the only one who could keep the villain's temperature down and keep him inactive. The team's initial investigation had few conclusions other than the break-in seemed well organized. With Memonic's "help", the lead researcher trusted the group (much to the surprise of the police officer who was assisting with the investigation) with information one what exactly was stolen. It appeared to be a fragment of an alien artifact -- a flexible, cloth-like material that was practically impenetrable. Prototypes based on research into this item were near or at completion.
Upon returning to the base, the team discovered Auquosus absent. They soon found out that he, disagreeing with turning Cosmus over to the police, instead handed him over to the military behind everyone's back. This left the team divided and upset.
However, Velocity handled the situation and apologized to the police on behalf of the teammate. Auquosus understood that his opinion's were not ignored in the present nor would they be in the future, though he still believed he did the right thing. Most of the team agreed with turning Cosmus over to the military, just not with the way he did it behind everyone's backs, and leaving Velocity in a poor situation with the police.
Duty called once more and team quickly put the debate behind them so they could concentrate on the current problem. The police called in a request for assistance -- the Woodlin Energy Research Center was again attacked. This time, the crime was in progress. The team quickly dispatched to the site and took a look around. Black Mask very quickly began feeling weakened and ill, though she didn't know why.
A very rapid investigation led them to elevator shaft number three of three that had been damaged by the breakin was still occupied by a new villain. He was still searching for something when the team moved to engage him. Velocity slammed into him after he blasted the rest of the team a couple times, and then punched him out. Shard was thus apprehended. His motivations remain unknown.
