Journal Entry 189
Since the encounter with the muggers on the east side last week, I've been considering the potential energy inherent in my current disability. It could be used to do some good. I've successfully installed the second generation of dampeners to the bracers, allowing safe discharge of energy's over 180 MW without the physical or environmental side effects or my earlier experiments. In effect my body, as a capacitor, holds a specific amount potential energy, beyond which could have catastrophic results. It seems I can absorb the ambient energy, siphon energy from electrical systems and redirect EM wavelengths into my body up to this maximum. I am now constructing a suit that will allow me to tap this energy safely and even more efficiently keep it under control.
Journal Entry 192
The first generation suit is almost ready for testing. I've been collecting data concerning a vigilante going by the name, 'The Black Mask'. Based on the anecdotal evidence, she seems to be fairly strong and capable of feats of daring that is putting her actions on the map so to speak. I find myself believing that should the Suit Mk 1 be ready in time that I could in effect use my abilities in a similar way. The details of which of course are still in flux. Have soccer practice with Andre today, so testing will have to wait until this weekend.
Journal Entry 194
The second round of tests are complete. The electrostatic field gives the suit a level of rigidity allowing for some resistance to physical attacks. In addition a superior resistance to energy intrusions has been proven beyond a reasonable doubt. Making progress on actual directed energy projection. Raw energy release has only created a wildly arcing effect as dangerous to myself as others. Have an idea for a focusing mechanism for projection and a body encompassing field array allowing my naturally occuring EM field to manifest and in concert with the energy release bring about a controlled electrical reaction. Made more progress with tracking the Black Mask. I believe a pattern is appearing that will in time allow me to track her movements and predict her, for lack of a better term, patrol habits. Andre wants a pit bull for his birthday. I'm not so sure that is a good idea, though I had one as a kid and it was pretty cool

Have completed tests of directed energy, power surge, shielding, and absorption regimes. All are within parameters, though care should be taken to avoid overload. Modeling of the overload shows severe neurological shock and burn damage could result within a 1-2 meter area. However, the data indicates that should some outside effect drive the bio-capacitor (e.g. my body) into uncontrolled overload beyond my rated capacity a severe disruption effect could result in power outages and physical shock to persons and equipment out to a 5 kilometer radius. Luckily standard use of the suit's abilities and ambient energy discharge should in the overwhelming majority of cases prevent this. This is only a theory and requires field testing.

Another Black Mask sighting. I believe I can predict with 75% certainty her activities within a given week. Once final tests on the Mk1 Suit, designated Ion Alpha, are complete I will give it a field test.
Journal Entry 210
My son sees me as his hero. Once you are a dad, nothing is the same. I think I will actually do this for him, for all kids and those who cannot protect themselves. I've devised a helmet and will be installing an integrated radio system. My electrostatic field successfully burns up any stray DNA or other tracking media, so in theory a mask will suffice, but I will stick with the helmet to protect my identity and that of my family. This is a big risk, but it should be worth it if I can change and save lives. With my private research going on, I can easily mask my movements and activities. Thank you Motorolla for buying that last patent!

I can fly. Seriously, I kid you not. It was quite accidental. In entry 213 I detailed the energy field matrix I used in generating the shielding effect on the suit. I accidentally varied the energy input and magnetic field strength to extend the field and I found myself aloft. With sufficient power I can replicate this field, allowing at first levitation and with the addition of thrust, actual flight. I'm still working on the control methodology, but I believe I can eventually achieve precision attitude control by manipulating the energy field itself. Testing continues. In two weeks, assuming the pattern continues, I intend to try my hand at interdiction of criminals.

Final round of laboratory tests are completed. First and second series of field tests completed. Flight controls stabilized. I have noted a potential to increase flight speed and even energy discharge by a simple force of will. However this rapidly drains me; yet in a pinch may prevent an overload or push through that little extra speed or EM effect neccessary to complete a task. Andre almost found my helmet today. I have to be more careful.
Journal Entry 224
There is buzz in the office that the Black Mask isn't alone. There may be others, for good or for ill, but no information in detail has surfaced as of yet. Anyway tonight I take my first flight over the city. I've tested the radio system extensively and plan to use it to triangulate crime in-progress. Flight takes a great deal of energy, so I'll keep it to short bursts for now until I can refine the energy output efficiency. In any case, here goes nothing.
Journal Entry 225
I stopped a breaking and entering reported by a young mother who called 911, stunning three thieves and leaving them for the police tied up and wetting themselves. The unfocused EM discharge took less than 10 seconds to leave all of them unconscious. Notably at this setting they had little to no burn trauma, only nerve overload. Perfect first live field test. I'm afraid the occupant (I can only assume it was the mother who called) might have spotted the blast (hard not to, to be honest) and my lift off.
Journal Entry 226
I heard a report of a car fleeing the police at high speed nearing a residential area. I was able to intercept and after a couple of shots disrupt the car's electrical system. After that, things ended naturally with the car stalling and the police catching up. I really had to push myself to catch them. I think I need afterburners! Anyway, all the gangsters likely saw was a bright set of flashes. I doubt anyone looked up.
Journal Entry 232
Third night out. I think I'm starting to do some good. Soon enough though I believe I should seek out the Black Mask. Will do so in two nights. Andre has his first stepping contest tonight. Good to see him start young like me and my brother. Man would Ty be proud of him. In any case tonight I heard chatter about a jumper off the Tri-Trump Towers. Not a suicide, but base jumping it turns out. Didn't get there in time, but continuing patrol.
Journal Entry 235
Met a couple people in town that seem to be open to the idea of heroes and others perhaps not so sure. Of note was this attractive bookstore girl. I think she is the type of idealistic person who would support a true hero or group. If there are more people like her, then if we do good; perhaps the police and government would be on our side? Anyway, I have resolved now to move up my search for the Black Mask. Tonight, hopefully Ion will encounter her.
