It was 2 pm on a Friday when the excitement first began to filter through the HomEl's headquarters building. Someone was on the roof and threatening to jump. He knew that he could and should do something. There really was no question about that. Luckily, the confusion generated the perfect opportunity to go to the restroom and "change". A few seconds later he poked his watery head out of the bathroom door and found the coast clear. Down the hall he went. He could of course move much faster than the average human in this form, but if only there were water to move through to get there it would be much quicker.
Arriving outside, it became clear that Betty Sclara was going to jump. There was a crowd around, but no "official" response had had enough time to arrive on the scene yet. Betty being on the roof really confused Terry. She was usually a very happy person with a lot to live for. She had only just two weeks ago landed a huge account that others in the department had been working for years to try and get. She had a gift, so why was she on the roof.
No time to think about that now. Gravity was doing it's work. Placing himself down in the fountain in the center of the main entrance sidewalk, he extended some very thin tendrils of water and guided the rapidly accelerating human toward the fountain. At the last second, slowing her down to still allow a splash but keep her from harm.
Using the splash to make a surreptitious getaway, Terry re-entered the building before order could be restored. Back to the bathroom to change back and back to work.
Why would Betty jump? The thought bothered him all the way back to his office. Then the clutter of voices became clearer. Betty had been laid off. This really didn't make any sense. She was successful, happy, and had just landed the company a huge contract. The company was doing very well. He saw the balance sheets during the weekly meetings. What could cause something like this?
