A Growing Team

Abrams gave it an hour after meeting the Mask (aka Beth..maybe) before calling Velocity. Using a disposable phone he had picked up (and in the Ion costume), he called the number...

Jumping at her desk and spilling ink on herself Veronica jerked the phone out of her pocket. "Speak to me."

A deep semi-metallic unfamiliar voice was on the other side, "This is Ion. Did Mask talk to you?"

Veronica moved the pone away form her ear and scrunched her face up at the sound. "Yeah she did you sound wierd bad phone connection I guess so you are wanting to meet, name the place and I will be there."

"Roof of the supply warehouse five blocks south of Adventure Park, just south of Highway 18. Time...whenever you can get here. I'll be waiting," Ion replied.

"Beat you there," she said and hung up.

A shadow cast against the rooftop. Velocity looked up and saw a large man in a deep blue and silver suit descending slowly from above. The suit, uniform, armor, whatever it was looked vaguely military with what could only be described as re-enforced wires running along it connecting different parts including the helmet which covered his head completely. There was a slight glow to him which faded as he landed near her. "You're fast." he said with a positive inflection of being impressed. "I'm called Ion, you must be Velocity."

"That's me," she said with a smile.

"Mask tells me you are forming a team. A good idea. I was seeking her out for a similar purpose, finding that someone had already took the initiative. No pun intended. I was looking for someone or a group that shared my ideals."

"Tell me your ideals and we will see if they mesh." She said observing the cords and metal of the suit, noting this was the reason for the tin can effect on the phone.

Ion nodded, "Very well. I believe that those with special abilities, no matter whether they be athletic, charismatic, intellectual, or in our case super human or super science have an obligation to help those who do not. Whether that is as a teacher, leader, or a servant of justice. Not just for ourselves or protection of our brothers and sisters, but as heroes and guideposts for them to follow. Especially the next generation."

He paused, "But it is better to do it together than going it alone. That in itself sets a good example."

"Hmmm." Velocity thought about what he had said. "Well I can't say I agree with the obligation part, a hero is a hero because of the choices they make. A mother and father choose to love a child, a fireman or cop choose to serve, a friend chooses to stand up for you when you are picked on not out of any type of obligation. Some of the best heroes aren't even aware they are. By making the choice to try and help others there will no doubt be those who look up to us that is true and it will need to be kept in mind when we act.

"I feel that it doesn't matter that we have abilities, but that are making the choice to do something, would we have without power maybe maybe not I am not going to dwell on it I guess I have chose to try me best to help out others and I intend to do so within the law, to work along side those who have chosen the life of a protector. If others choose to look up to me then I will do my best to not let them down.

"I agree that the more of us working together the better we will be able to help." She smiled as she looked out over the town from the roof top. " This is home and I want to keep it safe for everyone and I am extrememly fortunate to have found others who agree."

Ion nodded, "I like what you have to say Velocity. Okay, I'm in for now. Let's see how we gel and how things pan out. Suffice to say that if you lead the team according to the principles you just told me, I don't think we'll have any problems and may just do some good. One thing though, I'm not a 24 hour hero. I try to make it a priority, but certain things come first that are both behind what I do and finance what I do. That aside, I'm fairly flexible, though to be honest I'm new at this. Also, for now at least, I'd like to keep my identity secret even from the team. I have people who I am responsible for that do not know what I do and for their safety I'd like to keep it that way."

"I only have two things I ask of those who join up. One is never use your powers against the team, and the other is that you be honest. Your identity is your own to share when you feel, and if you feel it to be right. As long as your income is earned by legal means I have no problem." She extended her hand. "Welcome to the family." She said with a smile.
